  The third group is like me PIMA. Agnosticism means you doubt either option will have proof presented. Both groups claim to have have proof but it can all be argued against that it’s not actually proof of their theory but actually proof of the opposing theory.

  I think it is much harder to prove god exists than to prove he doesnt. What is the criteria that would prove god exists?

  I think it was Ricky Gervais that said that if you took away all knowledge of both religion and science, science would eventually be re-discovered and be exactly the same. Religion would be totally different.

  However, I would add to this that religion would probably be the same in the way it is now. That is, every religion teaches its members they have a chance to cheat death - provided they follow the rules of that particular religion.

  Yes Meaninglessness would certainly overcome.

  Many would argue that life is ultimately meaningless now. Birth, procreation, death- just like every other thing. Eventually we are all forgotten.

  Joey you may be right, but that’s a pretty bleak no hope outlook.
  If you are right then ignorance is bliss.

  Between 3-4 million children die of malnutrition every year. If you could do anything in your power to change that, would you? I would, so why doesnt a loving god do something?

  Malaria, childhood diseases, etc?
  

  Romans 6:23: 'The wages of sin is death'. If that is the case, why do we need to endure pointless, ongoing suffering as well? Dying, on its own is bad enough, isnt it?

  Regional Convention Attendance

  elder friend of mine texted me asking what my rc attendance was 2 weeks ago (family and i streamed it since wife is not well).

  he told me that his rc in the jersey city assembly hall last weekend was low.

  co told them that around 2600 were the total from 16+ congs that were assigned.

  Now that the dubs have had a taste of zoom they are barely getting 60% attendance at the meetings. Its not surprising that a lot aren't attending the conventions.

  Some of the old style conventions are bad enough to leave emotional scars - years later, due to the lack of comfort and care for the attendee's, so unless the convention is in a convenient, comfortable location, why travel and put yourself through an unpleasant ordeal?

  The Sydney, Australia 2003 international convention was the last I ever attended. Some people travelled up to 3 days in buses to attend an over-crowded, open air venue in the middle of summer, an hour from the centre of the city. You had to bring your lunch and take home the rubbish. It took 15-20 mins to walk from the train station to the venue. At the time I thought it was a disgrace to expect people to suppport such a badly planned event.

  Anon, you make a fair point about wait times in some cases. I was referring to elective surgeries like hip replacements etc.

  For another example, an older relative recently had a heart attack. Within a few days they received a full heart bypass, followed by post care and several weeks rehab, all free in the public system.

  If someone is injured in a road accident-even a pedestrian, they are fully covered for all health care, sometimes for life and may also receive a pay out in compensation, depending on their injuries. The injured patient doesn't have to try to find the person to sue, it is all taken care of.

  Yes, we certainly pay for it in taxes and fees, but personally I think it reduces the anxiety of any health emergency.

  Here in Australia, we have a 2 tier health system. It is usually ranked amongst the highest quality in the world. Everyone has access to free health care but you can also buy private health cover as well, if you want to. We also have reciprocal medical agreements with 11 other countries that cover most medical expenses, if needed , while in those countries. (U.K. is one of them.)

  There can still be long wait times for elective surgery and the system is definitely not perfect.

  Health care is something all of us will need at some stage, even if its just a visit to the doctor. Why would anyone not want it available for free- or low cost, to everyone?

  I spoke to an elder friend the other day. He told me that they are treading softly with those still using zoom as they dont want to scare them off.

  He admitted too many have become comfortable with zoom meetings and letter writing style witnessing and its going to be a battle to get them back.

  He told me about 30-40% of the cong are still on zoom, which sounds about right from what everyone else seems to be saying.

  i haven't a clue if it's technically feasible but i think if you're going to hit the dislike button on a post you should be open to discussion with the poster.. just your own topics and posts of course.

  When someone dislikes your post, they dont necessarily feel like debating you, or want you to expand on the subject further.

  Sometimes they are having a bad day - sometimes they think you are a dickhead, sometimes they are the dickhead, sometimes they just dont agree with you- or perhaps they have judged you based on previous posts and dont like you.

  Other times, someone may dislike your post and tell you exactly why.

  Im giving myself 3 thumbs up for this reply.

  Link between relationships and health/happiness

  even though i’m agnostic so will not commit to either intelligent design or chance, i love being part of the congregation for the close personal relationships.. there is such a great atmosphere inside the congregation it really is like a family and you don’t get this anywhere else.. a real friend is someone you can rely on when you are in need.

  if things go wrong for you and you are going through a hard time you know real friends will be there for you.

  as long as you didn’t bring it on yourself by going against gods law then you have to prove you are repentant first of course.. there is a lot of research now saying that good friends is essential for healthy and happiness.

  I have no doubt that a large percentage of JW members stay because of social relationships. Growing up a JW, there was always something fun going on with your JW friends and I sometimes miss my old friends.

  I havent attended a meeting in person for a long time but Ive been a long time gym member and I hear the same things said after a workout that I used to at meetings. Comments like;

  "I didnt feel like coming tonight - but Im glad I did."

  "I always feel better after a class."

  "We're having drinks this weekend".

  People enjoy social networks, some more than others and I think you can satisfy that human need in a lot of ways that dont include attending meetings.

  If it wasnt for the potential for friends you have known for decades to shun you for expressing an opinion, being a JW would be great in regards to the social side of things.

  Where are the excess deaths??

  The blue line shows 2020 and a spike in deaths because of covid, BEFORE the vaccine was avaliable. After that , the lines all look pretty close to me.

  The results of a 1 week sample size proves nothing.
